Work Injury Study is Interesting

 A Work Injury Study from The Department of Labor recently released overall finds we are safer in 2013 at work then we were in the year 2012. 

Americans still face many injuries and illnesses. Some of the top findings include drops in incident rates from 2012. Another interesting finding is that tractor trailer drivers hold the most dangerous jobs. It also shows that the most commonly reported injuries are musculoskeletal in nature.

While it is positive that work injuries are declining they still occur and they can be significant having a major impact effecting ones life and those around them. workers' compensation is designed for people who suffer injuries at work and have lost wages and medical bills as a result. Workers ages 45-54 had the highest number of days away from work (119.9 per 10,000).

322.8 for every 10,000 is the rate of injury or illness for tractor-trailer drivers which is around 3 times the rate for the typical private sector worker. Thus statistically tractor trailer drivers are the most perilous of private sector jobs.

What type of work injuries-33% of all work injuries and illnesses last year were musculoskeletal. These are injuries affecting ones joints, bones, muscles, nerves, tendons etc...

How many missed at least a day of work for a work injury-109.4 for every 10,000 full time workers had to miss at least a day of work last year because they were hurt or became ill on the job due to a work injury or work accident, while 8 days is the median number missed to recover. The private sector rate for days away from work cases was 99.9 per 10,000.

Violence and other injuries by persons or animals account for about 4%.

1.2 million days were missed in 2013 for recover from on the job injuries or work place illnesses.
