Social Security not a 'slave' program, says Congressional Budget Office

In contrast to allegations from some Congressional representatives that Social Security disability recipients are unnecessarily dependent on government assistance, a new report shows that enrollment is up strictly because of demographics. Research points to new depression treatment

Millions of Americans suffer from depression. In some people, symptoms are so severe that they are unable to work, instead receiving Social Security Disability payments for their illness. All of that might change for some patients who are severely depressed due to a controversial new treatment that has allowed many people to get back to their lives.

Pennsylvania cuts could affect thousands

Disabled Pittsburgh residents know far too well how difficult it is to make ends me when receiving government benefits. Now, with the new so-called welfare reform laws being considered, many throughout the state may lose the only form of income they have. Some of the individuals affected by the changes are in the middle of the appeals process to receive Social Security Disability payments or haven't applied at all. The end result to such a drastic change in income is that those who are already struggling could end up homeless.

Group Empowers Disabled Homebuyers

More than 52 million Americans are living with some form of life-altering disability, according to experts, many of which cause problems with mobility and everyday life activities. Among those who receive Social Security Disability payments, one factor is consistently overlooked: How can a homeowner modify their house to fit his/her special needs?
