Pennsylvania woman wins slip-and-fall case

A federal judge recently awarded a woman from Bucks County six-figure compensation in an incident in which she tripped and fell while on the job at a Philadelphia supermarket. The woman reportedly filed her lawsuit approximately a year ago after she tripped and fell over a box that was being used as a makeshift doorstop to prop open a large office door at the grocery store.

Her lawsuit allegedly accused Pathmark on Franklin Mills Boulevard of negligence for creating a dangerous and hazardous condition to both employees and the public. Her complaint was initially filed at the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, but she later moved it to U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. There were three other defendants who were named in the lawsuit: Pathmark Stores, Inc., Pathmark International, Inc., and The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, Inc. The woman reportedly was awarded nearly $800,000 for her work-related injuries.

The woman had reportedly been injured when she was visiting the Northeast Philadelphia Pathmark store. She was employed by General Mills, which did business with the defendants on a regular basis. Her job was to ensure that General Mills' products were on the store shelves, and if a product wasn't on the shelf, she was supposed to obtain the appropriate paperwork, scan the product's tag code information and tag the shelf in the store where the product was to be placed. When the woman was leaving the office after obtaining the paperwork, she allegedly tripped and fell, resulting in her injuries. She claimed that she dislocated her right shoulder and fractured it in four places.

People who are injured in work-related accidents might decide to file workers' compensation lawsuits to attempt to seek compensation for their injuries. Attorneys might be able to assist them in negotiating settlements for the claims with defendants.
