After fingers amputated, metalworker files liability claim

Workplace accidents can be particularly devastating for Pennsylvania workers, not just for the immediate impact of the accident but because of the long-term effects. This can be especially true for trade workers, who might not be able to practice their craft as they did before if they are hurt in a debilitating workplace accident.

This is the plight of one man who worked as a metalworker in Pennsylvania. He is suing because he lost the three middle fingers on his right hand while working on a metal shearer. The worker says that the manufacturer of the device should be held liable for his injuries because the machine doesn't have any kind of safety device to guard against amputation.

As a result of the accident, the man has a permanent disability. He is also unable to work at his previous job, because of the dexterity required, which will result in continued lost wages. He also says the accident caused him to suffer intense pain and anguish, as well as chronic pain. The man's suit is seeking $150,000 in damages from the company that manufactures the implement the man was using at the time of his injury.

A case such as this one serves to show us the true impact of an injury sustained on the job. While the actual workplace accident may have lasted only a handful of seconds -- or even less -- the results can lead to a lifetime of discomfort, lost wages and a different lifestyle. Experienced workplace injury attorneys can offer assistance to those who have been hurt on the job.
