Can you claim compensation for stress?

Every year in Pennsylvania, workers find themselves unable to return to their jobs for prolonged periods due to illness or injury. This can be extremely inconvenient, especially as it may mean going without wages for a while. However, in certain circumstances it is possible to file a claim for workers' compensation, covering many of the costs associated with a work-related illness or injury.

Often, compensation claims of this nature are for physical injuries suffered at work. These can be caused by any number of factors, such as malfunctioning machinery, collapsing structures or simply the employee falling over. Whatever the case, if your injury occurred at work while you were carrying out the responsibilities of your position, you are likely to be entitled to compensation.

Illnesses are also covered if it can be shown that they were caused by the job. For example, diseases caused by overexposure to certain toxins are also usually covered, as are illnesses like heat stroke, which may be brought on by excessively hot working conditions. However, something that not everyone realizes is that stress is also covered in certain circumstances, as this article on workplace accidents explains.

As such, if the pressures of your job are making you unwell, you might be able to file a claim. It may seem like a lot to take in, but you do not need to handle the claims process alone. An attorney may be able to support you and help to ensure the filing goes as smoothly as possible. He or she can oversee the claim and may be able to assist you in presenting your case as you work to pursue the fair remuneration you deserve.
