Repetitive trauma due to working conditions

Employers have a duty to protect their employees from workplace injuries. The Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA) requires all employers to take considerable steps to keep employees safe. But in some cases, injuries are difficult to avoid. Some injuries take place gradually with time and show symptoms after months, or even years. One of these workplace illnesses is repetitive stress injury.

Repetitive trauma is a complex workplace injury of the nervous system caused due to repetitive use of the same muscle. Doing to same work for several years may result in repetitive stress injuries. In some cases, awkward positioning can also lead to repetitive trauma. People working in an office environment often complain about this disease. Awkward sitting positions can lead to back injuries which are an example of repetitive stress injury. Typing for several hours a day could lead to an injury called carpal tunnel syndrome, which is an example of repetitive trauma. People working in industrial environments often complain about other repetitive trauma injuries like the tennis elbow or radial tunnel syndrome. These injuries are caused due to vigorous use of the same muscle for several years.

The Occupational Health and Safety Act made sure that employers followed all safety regulations at the workplace. If employees feel that they employer is not sincere about their safety, they may file a complaint.

If you have suffered from a repetitive stress injury due to your working condition, you might be eligible for compensation and medical benefits. It is advisable to contact an experienced attorney to guide you through the process and help you receive the compensation you deserve.
