Scaffold-related accidents are common but preventable

Construction sites witness accidents on an everyday basis. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) estimated that 2.3 million construction employees work on scaffolds. Injuries from scaffold accidents might be serious in many cases. According to a Bureau of Labor Statistics study, more than 70 percent of scaffold injuries were due to falling or slipping, being hit by a falling object and faulty equipment. It is safe to say that Scaffold-related accidents happen far too frequently and leave workers with serious injuries.

If you have been involved in a scaffold-related accident, the first thing that might have crossed your mind is getting your workers' compensation. A successful workers' compensation claim will help cover medical expenses and lost wages due to injury at the workplace. It is your right as a worker to be familiar with these laws even if you have not experienced any injury so far.

Understating the cause of the accident is critical. Could the incident have been avoided if proper safety gear was provided to the worker? If the scaffold-related accident was the result of negligence on the part of the employer or faulty equipment, you may want to pursue a personal injury claim. A personal injury claim allows you to obtain compensation above your workers' compensation.

Such cases can turn out to be complex. An experienced attorney may help ease you through the process and make sure you are rightfully compensated. Even if you have not gone through a construction site accident, specifically scaffold-related mishaps, it is still important to know your rights.
