Fatal workplace accident remains under investigation

There are many known hazards in a variety of different workplaces in Pennsylvania and across the country. While employers and employees take action against the hazards of which they are aware, there are many that are not anticipated. Unfortunately, a recent fatal workplace accident in another state is currently under investigation.

Police say that the incident happened just prior to 9:30 a.m. on a day in May. According to reports, a 53-year-old man was using a forklift. He was in the process of unloading fencing bundles off a flatbed trailer when the accident happened.

Reports indicate that after he unloaded a fencing bundle from the truck, a bundle on the other side fell off the trailer, striking the man. He was transported to the hospital, but ultimately passed away as a result of the injuries he suffered in the accident. While the police are investigating the incident, it may also result in an investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The man's employer could be fined or cited if violations of health and safety standards are discovered.

Unfortunately, an incident such as this can cause significant financial and emotional harm to surviving family members. Because many families have difficulty making ends meet following a fatal workplace accident, employers are required to provide workers' compensation insurance coverage. These benefits can provide compensation for funeral expenses and lost wages. However, many families in Pennsylvania are unprepared to negotiate with insurance companies during their time of grief, prompting them to seek an experienced attorney to help them through the process.
