Officials investigate fatal industrial accident

People in Pennsylvania who work at great heights are often aware of the potential risks of a fall. Because of their awareness, they can take certain measures to protect themselves, including the use of safety harnesses. However, many falls come unexpectedly, when workers may be unaware of the risk they face. Unfortunately, a man in another state recently lost his life in an industrial accident involving a fall.

The incident happened on day in late May. According to reports, the 27-year-old victim and another worker went onto their employer's roof. The two were reportedly attempting to open a fire door that is said to be spring-loaded.

Unfortunately, the door struck the victim in the head, causing him to fall through it. He ultimately fell 25 to 30 feet. Emergency responders came to the scene, but the man passed away as a result of injuries suffered in the fall. The incident remains under investigation by North Carolina's Occupational Safety and Health Division, which has several months to review the incident and issue a report.

An industrial accident such as this can leave families reeling from the emotional and financial ramifications of an unexpected loss. While it will do little to ease the grief the family is likely experiencing, they may qualify for workers' compensation insurance benefits. These benefits can provide compensation for lost wages and funeral costs. Because the average person has little experience with the process, many in Pennsylvania entitled to such benefits often choose to seek guidance from a professional who does.
