Construction accident results in a fatality

When most people in Pennsylvania think of dangerous occupations, the first ones that likely come to mind are those that require workers to rush directly toward dangers such as police officers, soldiers and firefighters. However, many people underestimate the potential harm that those who work in the field of construction face as they work with heavy equipment and at great heights. Unfortunately, a recent construction accident in another state resulted in the death of a worker.

The incident happened on a day in early September. Reports indicate that workers were installing gas lines for PUMPCO, Inc. Unfortunately, the 38-year-old victim was reportedly struck by a grader used to flatten surfaces.

The deceased worker was believed to have been struck in or near his head while in a kneeling position, resulting in blood loss. While he was conscious immediately after the accident, he ultimately passed away. Reports indicate that he may have died as a result of cardiac arrest. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is working to determine whether safety or health standards were violated in the events leading up to the accident.

Few families in Pennsylvania or other areas of the country are prepared for the unexpected death of a family member. In addition to the grief associated with such a loss, the financial ramifications are often more than families can manage. Funeral expenses in combination with lost wages often create financial instability. Even though families who lose a loved one in a construction accident are often entitled to workers' compensation insurance benefits, many are unsure about the process, often prompting them to seek guidance from a professional with experience with such cases.
