Give With Us: Support Victims of Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey 1

On August 26, 2017, Hurricane Harvey made landfall on the southeast coast of Texas. A Category 4 storm, Harvey was the first major hurricane (Category 3 or higher) to fall on the United States since Hurricane Wilma in 2005. The governor's office is estimating that the economic impact of the storm could be as much as $180 billion.

We can only imagine what it's like to have everything that you've worked so hard for taken away from you. At Dugan & Associates, we are donating to help and support the victims of Hurricane Harvey, and we encourage you to help as well, if you have the means and ability.

The Storm and its Aftermath

Harvey had wind speeds of an incredible 130 miles per hour. In Rockport, TX, where the storm made landfall, entire city blocks were destroyed. But the most devastating part of the storm was the rainfall. Over four days, Harvey dumped 40 inches of rain in most areas, with some getting over 50 inches. The flooding was immediate and intense, with entire neighborhoods submerged.

At the time of this writing, at least 60 people are confirmed dead in the aftermath of the storm. More than 573,000 people have registered for emergency assistance with FEMA. Survivors are cleaning out their ruined homes and businesses, taking stock of the damages, and wondering how much their insurance might cover.

We know from past storms like Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Sandy that the recovery in Texas could take years. The effects on individual lives is nearly impossible to measure, beyond the simple tally of dollars spent. And the effects on the region - economically, politically, and environmentally - may not be clear for many years to come.

Sending Help

In support of ongoing relief efforts, Dugan & Associates is making a donation to the American Red Cross. We know that nothing will completely heal the devastation these people have gone through, but every donation helps. That is why we contributed to the Red Cross' efforts to rebuild following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, and we are happy to do the same for Hurricane Harvey victims.

We also know that it will take a lot more to make a true difference in the million lives or more that have been impacted by this terrible storm. We want to urge everyone to give to the American Red Cross or donate in any way you can to help provide aid and assistance to survivors.
