UPS worker injured in industrial accident

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the majority of workplace deaths are the result of four main categories of accidents -- being struck by an object, falls, electrocutions and getting caught between or in equipment. While a man in another state was recently involved in an industrial accident involving being pinned in equipment, he is fortunate that his accident was not fatal. However, as injured Pennsylvania workers can likely attest, injuries can also result in significant financial and life altering consequences.

Emergency workers were called to a UPS Customer Center at approximately 8:30 a.m. on a day in late August. According to reports, the man's arm had became entrapped in a conveyor belt. As a result, his arm became detached.

Coworkers started to transport the Colorado man to the hospital in a personal vehicle when they were instructed to meet an ambulance instead. Emergency workers were able to extricate the man's arm from the equipment, and it was transported to the hospital separately in case it could be reattached. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has since decided to open an investigation into the case.

Because of the industrial accident, the injured worker will likely face a long road to recovery. Additionally, he may be unable to return to work in the same capacity. Because of the potential financial consequences created by such injuries, the worker is likely interested in ensuring that he is treated fairly in regard to workers' compensation insurance benefits. Many people in Pennsylvania who have suffered injuries while at work have similar concerns, prompting them to ask for help from an attorney who has experience with the process.
