Workplace accidents: 2 killed, 4 injured in Pennsylvania

Regardless of the profession, all workers are likely aware of potential work hazards. However, unpredictable conditions or failing structures can often result in workplace accidents that cannot be predicted or avoided. Unfortunately, two people were recently killed while working in Pennsylvania; four others were injured.

The incident happened one night in late August. According to reports, the victims were performing maintenance in an enclosure at Bruce Mansfield Power Plant that was underground. While the maintenance was being conducted, a pipe is said to have ruptured and filled the closure with sludge.

Two workers, contractors who worked for Enerfab Corporation, were in the pit and died. Four other workers were outside the pit and were reportedly overwhelmed by fumes. They were transported to the hospital by helicopter. While many details of the event are unclear, it is currently under investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and more details are expected to be released.

Unfortunately, the families of the deceased workers must now plan the funeral of their loved ones. The four other victims may have to spend a significant amount of time in the hospital while they recover. All will likely have to cope with unexpected expenses stemming from the incident. They may, however, be entitled to workers' compensation insurance benefits, just as other victims of workplace accidents in Pennsylvania -- including surviving family members in the event of a fatality -- have received. To help ensure they fully understand the compensation process, many people who deserve benefits often seek guidance from an experienced professional.
