Foul play not suspected in fatal workplace accident

Even jobs in Pennsylvania that may seem relatively safe on the surface can often have serious risks associated with them. For example, people who work with hot surfaces or toxic materials can face serious injuries. Unfortunately, a man in another state recently lost his life in a fatal workplace accident.

Rescue workers were called to the scene just after 4 p.m. on a day in September. According to reports, the man was working at Nucor Steel, a company that manufactures steel rolls. Police believe that the man slipped, falling into a vat of byproducts from the finished rolled steel.

The man died at the scene. Reports indicate that foul play is not believed to have played a role into the accident. However, the event likely remains under investigation by local authorities as well as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. If it is found that violations of health or safety standards led to the man's death, his employer could face fines, citations or both.

Unfortunately, many workers and their families in Pennsylvania and around the country are left facing the consequences of such an accident. Because many people are often unable to cope with the financial consequences of lost wages, medical bills and funeral expenses that typically follow a fatal workplace accident, they often wonder how they will fulfill their financial obligations. Fortunately, all states require employers to provide workers' compensation insurance benefits to help these victims following an accident. However, many people are unable to fully devote their time and energy to negotiating when an insurance company while they are recovering -- either physically or emotionally -- often prompting them to seek help from a professional with experience with the compensation process.
