OSHA to investigate fatal warehouse accident

There are many known hazards in a variety of different workplaces in Pennsylvania and across the country. While certain precautions can help many workers avoid these hazards, some issues can arise unexpectedly in the workplace. In fact, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is currently set to investigate a recent warehouse accident that happened in another state.

The incident happened one afternoon on a day in November. According to reports, rescue workers were called to a warehouse as a result of an accident involving a forklift that rolled over. Police say that the victim, a 51-year-old man, was pronounced dead just minutes after the initial call was received.

A man at the scene claimed to be the victim's brother. According to him, the victim was operating a forklift on a loading dock. A miscommunication with the driver of a tractor-trailer reportedly resulted in the rollover accident when the forklift reportedly landed on the victim. Police claim that foul play is not suspected. If OSHA discovers that health or safety standards led to the accident, the man's employer could face citations, fines or both.

Despite the best efforts of workers and employers, the lives of people in Pennsylvania and across the country are often completely altered as a result of a warehouse accident. To help with the financial ramifications of these accidents, employers are required to provide workers' compensation insurance coverage that provide for lost wages, medical costs and funeral expenses in the event of a fatality such as this. An attorney with experience with the compensation process can help victims of workplace accidents -- including grieving family members -- seek the benefits they deserve.
