Workplace accidents: Large machinery accident leads to fatality

Workers in Pennsylvania and other areas of the country are often given a great deal of information about the potential for being injured in the workplace accident. Unfortunately, machinery can often operate in unexpected ways, causing workplace accidents that could potentially have serious consequences. For example, a man in another state was recently killed at a dairy farm.

The incident happened on a day in November. According to reports, a 32-year-old male was working on a manure separator which is a large piece of machinery. Unfortunately, it is believed that his head became trapped by a roller that was inside the machine.

The man was trapped for approximately 20 to 30 minutes before he was discovered by other workers. He was transported to the hospital but ultimately passed away as a result of injuries suffered in the incident. The investigation continues.

Unfortunately, a family is now coping with the unexpected death of a loved one. While the emotional consequences of such a loss are often clear, many people may not be as aware of the financial complications a family often faces. Funeral expenses, in combination with lost wages, are often more than many families can handle. As a result, states require employers to provide workers' compensation insurance benefits in the event of workplace accidents. While often these benefits extend to certain family members, many people in Pennsylvania are not prepared for the challenges associated with negotiating with an insurance company on the heels of a tragic loss, prompting them to hire an experienced attorney to help them through the process.
