Young father victim of fatal workplace accident

Most employers and workers in Pennsylvania and across the country are aware of obvious hazards in the workplace. Unfortunately, many workplace accidents happen as a result of hazards that cannot reasonably be anticipated. For example, a fatal workplace accident in another state is currently under investigation.

The incident reportedly happened at an industrial area in another state. The victim, a 28-year-old man, was a contractor working at a site called Knife River. Reports indicate that the man was attempting to change a windshield wiper on a truck.

Unfortunately, the man reportedly fell while doing so, becoming trapped between the tire and bumper. His position, according to reports, likely made it hard for him to breathe, resulting in his death from positional asphyxia. While the medical examiner is waiting for additional test results, foul play is not suspected.

Social media posts indicate that the deceased worker leaves behind a young biological son as well as two foster children. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is expected to launch an investigation into the cause of the accident. While the results could result in a fine and/or citation against the man's employer, they will do little to alleviate the emotional and financial burdens created for the family as a result of the man's unexpected death. Fortunately, employers are required to provide workers' compensation insurance coverage, which can help families in the event of a fatal workplace accident. An attorney with experience with the compensation process can help families in Pennsylvania seek a fair settlement to cover lost wages and funeral expenses.
