Workplace accidents: 2 hospitalized after Pennsylvania accident

Any occupation holds some degree of risk. However, tasks that involve the use of heavy machinery can easily result in workplace accidents that send workers to the hospital with significant injuries. For example, two workers in Pennsylvania were recently hospitalized following an incident at a ski resort.

The incident happened on a day in December. It reportedly involved a summer attraction at Nemacolin Woodlands Resorts called the "QuickJump." As part of the attraction, guests leap from a platform that is 50 feet off the ground and are caught by a harness.

Reports indicate that the two injured workers were performing maintenance on the attraction using a high-reach vehicle similar to a cherry picker. While the extent of their injuries is unclear, they were reportedly transported to the hospital by helicopter. Resort officials are still working to determine the cause of the accident.

Unfortunately, the injured workers could face a lengthy recovery as a result of the Pennsylvania accident. Lost wages while recovering, in addition to medical bills, may create concerns about how they will meet their financial obligations. Fortunately, because of the potential for workplace accidents, employers are required to provide workers' compensation insurance benefits which can help them with the financial consequences of such an accident. An attorney with experience with the process can help them seek the settlement they deserve. By having help, victims of such accidents are better able to focus on their overall recovery rather than experiencing stress about how they will pay their bills.
