Pennsylvania fatal workplace accident under investigation

All occupations have hazards. As a result, most employers in Pennsylvania are committed to ensuring that their employees are properly trained and have the necessary equipment to ensure their personal safety. Unfortunately, a fatal workplace accident can still occur despite these measures.

In fact, multiple organizations, including the coroner's office, Pennsylvania State Police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, are investigating an incident that resulted in the loss of a life. The incident happened just before 3 p.m. on a day in late February. Although the accident was originally described as an entrapment, later reports indicated that entrapment did not occur.

Reports claim that a 19-year-old man was discovered dead at Mellott Manufacturing. He was reportedly killed by a heavy piece of machinery that fell on him. The coroner's office has ruled the death accidental, finding that the victim's death was caused by a blunt force head injury.

Unfortunately, a family is now likely reeling from the news that they will now have to plan a funeral for their young family member. While the investigations into the incident will work to determine how the accident occurred and what can be done to prevent similar accidents in the future, the victim's family is now left dealing with the consequences of the fatal workplace accident. Because the costs associated with such a loss can be overwhelming for a grieving family, employers are required to provide workers' compensation insurance benefits to help families with the expenses associated with such a loss. An experienced professional in Pennsylvania can help the family seek the compensation they deserve.
