Fatal workplace accident at BMW plant under investigation

While some workplaces in Pennsylvania may hold more risks than others, all employees face the potential of being involved in an accident regardless of their place of employment. While health and safety standards are in place and enforced, accidents can still happen. In fact, a recent fatal workplace accident in another state remains under investigation by federal officials.

The incident happened on a day in late March. Officials say that the 45-year-old victim became trapped in a piece of machinery. The coroner, who has called to the scene just after 10:30 a.m., concluded that he died as a result of blunt force and open head trauma.

The incident happened at a BMW plant, and reports indicate that the victim was a contractor. A representative for the company claims that the accident happened in the company's paint shop. As is typical following a fatal accident, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has launched an investigation to determine whether any standards were violated leading up to the incident. If any are found, OSHA could issue fines, citations or both.

Because there is always the potential of workplace accidents, employers in Pennsylvania and across the country are required to provide workers' compensation insurance coverage. In the event of an accident, these benefits can provide assistance with lost wages and medical expenses. Following a fatal workplace accident such as this, benefits often extend to certain family members and cover funeral expenses. A professional with experience with such benefits can help families fully understand what they deserve.
