Fatal workplace accident remains under investigation

While most people associate dangerous occupations with police officers and firefighters, for example, who are often forced to run directly toward dangerous situations, the fact is that all jobs hold some degree of risk. This may be especially true for those in Pennsylvania and other areas of the country who have manufacturing jobs that require them to use heavy machinery. Unfortunately, officials in another state are investigating a recent fatal workplace accident.

The incident happened one Saturday on a day in early April. Rescue workers received a call about a man stuck in machinery at PolyExcel. The company manufactures agricultural equipment such as baler twine and net wraps.

When first responders arrived, they found the man trapped in a piece of machinery. They were able to extricate him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration along with the local police department are investigating, though foul play is not suspected.

Many employers in Pennsylvania are dedicated to protecting the safety of their employees; as such, they provide appropriate training and protective gear. Despite these efforts, however, workplace accidents can still occur, often creating a precarious financial situation for victims. As a result, employers must provide workers' compensation insurance benefits that can help with certain expenses following an accident. In the event of a fatal workplace accident such as this one, these benefits can often extend to certain family members and cover funeral costs. Those grieving because of the unexpected loss of a loved one may feel unprepared to negotiate with an insurance company, often prompting them to seek help from an experienced professional.
