State trooper suffers fatal work-related injuries

Police officers in Pennsylvania and across the country know that every time they report for a shift, they may be putting their lives at risk. While the risks involved in attempting to disarm and apprehend those committing a crime are obvious, those associated with traveling on roadways may be less so. Unfortunately, reports indicate that a trooper from another state recently suffered fatal work-related injuries in a crash.

The incident happened on a day in late March. Many of the details regarding the accident are unclear. However, reports indicate that a 49-year-old veteran police officer was traveling in the right lane of an interstate. Unfortunately, the trooper's vehicle is said to have struck the rear of what has been described as a "slow-moving tractor-trailer."

Many of the details of the accident remain unclear, including whether the trooper was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. The 58-year-old male reportedly driving the tractor-trailer was not injured in the collision. Officials are asking that anyone with information regarding the accident contact them.

The man leaves behind two children and an "exemplary" record as a police officer. While his family adjusts to the news of his death, they must also respond to the financial implications of their loss. Because the consequences of fatal work-related injuries are often overwhelming, employers in Pennsylvania and other areas of the country are required to provide workers' compensation insurance coverage. These benefits can help families with lost wages and funeral costs. Though the process can be complicated, there are experienced professionals who can help guide grieving family members through it.
