Man injured on the job due to chemical burns

Any job that involves chemicals can have serious risks associated with it even if a Pennsylvania worker is only transporting the chemical. Certain chemicals can cause serious harm if a person comes into contact with the actual substance or even the fumes. Unfortunately, a man in another state was recently injured on the job while unloading a truck.

The incident happened just after 9:30 a.m. on a day in April. According to reports, a 43-year-old man was working as a truck driver. At the time of the accident, he was reportedly unloading hydrous ammonia from a tractor-trailer.

Reports indicate that he removed a safety cap from a coupler. Unfortunately, he was sprayed in the face as a result of pressure and suffered serious injuries in the form of a chemical burn. He was transported to the hospital by ambulance but was then transferred to a different facility by helicopter. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident; depending on the organization's findings, the man's employers could face fines and/or citations.

As a result of the man's injuries, he may face a lengthy recovery requiring extensive medical treatment. Unfortunately, he may be concerned about the financial harm that medical bills in combination with lost wages can cause. Fortunately, those who are injured on the job in Pennsylvania and across the country are often entitled to workers' compensation insurance benefits. An attorney with experience with the compensation process can help victims fully understand their rights and legal options related to seeking a fair settlement.
