Worker killed in construction site accident on campus

While all occupations in Pennsylvania and across the country hold some degree of risk of injury due to a work-related accident, many workplace accidents happen at construction sites. Because workers often work at great heights and use heavy equipment, they face significant harm. Unfortunately, reports indicate that a worker was recently killed in a construction site accident on a campus in another state.

The incident happened one afternoon on a day in late April. According to reports, the 35-year-old victim was employed by a contractor hired by a college as part of a building renovation projected to cost $36 million. At the time of the accident, the victim was working to install a limestone header above a doorway.

Unfortunately, a block measuring approximately six feet reportedly fell as it was being lifted into place. It struck the man in the head and chest, resulting in his death. An autopsy has been scheduled. University officials say that no other injuries were reported in the incident.

Even a person who is well-versed about the potential dangers encountered in completing job-related tasks likely thinks that he or she will return home at the end of a work day. Unfortunately, many families are unprepared for the financial complications created by an unexpected loss. As a result, employers in Pennsylvania and across the country are required to provide workers' compensation insurance coverage, which can help families with funeral expenses and other costs associated with a fatal construction site accident. An attorney with experience with such cases can help these families seek fair compensation as they come to terms with their grief.
