Work-related injuries prove fatal following fall

Some jobs in Pennsylvania require workers to spend a great deal of time working on a ladder. While this may seem relatively innocuous -- especially for someone accustomed to working at great heights -- there is a potential for suffering serious work-related injuries in a fall. In fact, a recent incident in another state exemplifies the dangers these workers face.

The incident happened one morning on a day in early May. Reports indicate that a man was on a ladder, either installing or servicing a piece of equipment at ITW Polymers, also called Devcon. Officials claim that the man fell from the ladder.

Emergency crews were called to the scene where they discovered the injured man, said to be between 35 and 40 years old. At the time of their arrival, he was said to be conscious and alert. However, his condition soon deteriorated, and he passed away. The incident remains under investigation by multiple organizations, including local police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The victim's identity was withheld until his family members could be notified of his death.

An unexpected accident resulting in fatal work-related injuries such as this can create obvious emotional hardships for surviving family members. However, the financial ramifications created by medical bills, funeral expenses and lost wages can be just as devastating. As a result, Pennsylvania -- along with all other states -- require that employers provide workers' compensation insurance coverage. In the event of a fatality such as this, these benefits often extend to certain family members. An experienced professional can help these families fully understand their rights as they seek a fair settlement.
