Workplace accidents: Fatal incident under investigation

No matter how many safety precautions workers in Pennsylvania and across the country may choose to take, they may still be risk of being seriously injured -- possibly even killed. In fact, employers are required to provide workers' compensation insurance coverage to ensure that workers and their families are protected following workplace accidents. A family in another state may qualify for such protection after a recent accident took a man's life.

The incident happened one morning on a day in early June. According to reports, the 59-year-old victim was loading an asphalt machine onto a trailer so it could be repaired. While doing so, reports indicate that the machine began jerking, causing the man to fall off and land underneath the machinery.

Officials believe that the man died instantly. It reportedly took several hours to extricate his body; firefighters were ultimately able to do so with the use of airbags. While officials believe that the incident was an accident, an investigation is working to do determine whether it could have been prevented.

Even workers who have years of experience with tasks can ultimately fall victim to workplace accidents. Unfortunately, this man's family is now left to come to terms with the news of the unexpected death of their family member. Though workers' compensation benefits can extend to certain family members, people who are coping with grief often feel unable to manage the process on their own. As a result, many in Pennsylvania turn to experienced professionals for advice as they seek a settlement that is fair.
