Construction workers face silicosis due to working conditions

Workplace injuries can be painful and difficult to deal with for the employer. It may result in the employee needing some time off work. The employer must also pay for the medical expenses of the injured employee. Injuries are often dealt with quickly, and employees return back to work as soon as possible. On the other hand, occupational illnesses are often caused because of long term working conditions.

Exposure to chemicals and toxins may result in severe occupational illnesses. Workers in the construction industry often face serious illness because of the nature of their work. Occupational illnesses may not show symptoms for several months or years. The symptoms of these diseases could be fatal, which is why they should be treated as soon as possible. One of these diseases is silicosis. Silicosis is common in the construction industry because of crystalline silica dust. Silicosis is a dangerous lung disease that may leave workers vulnerable to further diseases like tuberculosis.

Crystalline silica dust is present in abrasives of rock, concrete and sandstone. This dust is present on construction sites at all times. Performing tasks like grinding, painting and using power tools leaves employees vulnerable to silicosis. Employers should try to provide workers with proper safety equipment. Proper safety equipment could protect workers from the dangerous silica dust.

If you are suffering from an occupational illness like silicosis, you may be eligible for compensation. Toxic exposure cases are complicated, which is why you might want to consider hiring an experienced attorney. The attorney will go through your case and may be able to help you get compensated.
