Man killed in job-related motor vehicle accident

There are multiple dangers that workers in Pennsylvania face as they go through their workday. While precautions can be taken to protect them from many dangers, not all can be completely eliminated, often leaving workers and their families struggling with the ramifications of a workplace accident. Unfortunately, a worker in another state recently lost his life in a job\-related motor vehicle accident.

Police say that they received a call regarding an accident involving a tractor-trailer at approximately 5:15 a.m. on a day in late June. The 56-year-old victim had reportedly been attempting to remove an empty trailer from a loading dock. Unfortunately, he is believed to have fallen from the cab of the truck.

Police believe that the rear wheels of the truck ran over the man after he fell. He died at the scene of the accident. Reports indicate that officials are continuing to investigate the incident. The man's employee could face citations, fines or both if it is found that health or safety standards were violated, causing the accident.

Many families are often left unprepared for the unexpected death of a family member. Funeral costs and lost wages can easily become overwhelming. Fortunately, employers in Pennsylvania are required to provide workers' compensation coverage to help with medical bills and other costs following a job-related motor vehicle accident and other employment related incidents. These benefits can extend to certain family members in the event of a fatality and provide for funeral expenses. An attorney with experience with such benefits can help surviving family members fully understand their rights and options.
