Federal officials investigate fatal workplace accident

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration works hard to help protect employee safety in Pennsylvania and across the country. While they have certain standards in place to help prevent accidents, representatives are often given the difficult task of investigating incidents that resulted in a fatality. In fact, OSHA personnel were recently on the scene of a fatal workplace accident in a neighboring state.

The incident involved a 46-year-old man and happened on a day in late July. Reports indicate that the victim was working in an area that contained several machines at a company called Berry Plastics. He may have been addressing a possible problem with a machine when the accident happened.

While performing maintenance on one of the machines used to print labels for bottles, he was reportedly hit in the head. The medical examiner is working to determine that exact cause of his death. Once that determination is made, his identity will be released. If OSHA finds that workplace safety standards were violated leading to the accident, the man's employer could face fines and/or citations.

While federal officials work to determine the exact cause of the fatal workplace accident, the man's family is left to cope with the news of their loved one's unexpected death. An already stressful situation, many families in Pennsylvania in similar circumstances feel additional stress due to concerns over their financial situation. However, an attorney with experience with workers' compensation insurance benefits can help them determine how much compensation they deserve and seek a fair settlement.
