Construction accidents: Man using heavy machinery dies

While there are a variety of different hazards that employees in Pennsylvania and across the country face in all workplaces, some hold a great deal of potential for harm. For example, construction accidents can be caused by heavy machinery, falls from great heights and collapsing structures, among many other potential hazards. Unfortunately, a construction worker recently lost his life in an accident while at work.

The incident that led to the 37-year-old man's death reportedly happened in early November. At the time of the accident, he is said to have been operating a construction vehicle on a portion of land described as hilly. Unfortunately, the vehicle reportedly rolled, ejecting the man. He was pinned underneath.

According to witnesses, the extrication process was relatively lengthy as it required the use of another piece of machinery to lift the first. The man was transported to the hospital, but he ultimately passed away as a result of injuries suffered in the accident. The accident is likely under investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

The unexpected loss of a life is always a tragedy -- one for which most families in Pennsylvania are unprepared. While OSHA investigators work to determine if violations of safety standards caused construction accidents, grieving families are left to come to terms with both their grief and the financial ramifications of their loss. To help with the latter, states require that employers provide workers' compensation insurance coverage that can provide for funeral expenses and lost wages; these benefits can extend to certain family members in the event of a fatality. A professional with experience with such benefits can help these families pursue a fair settlement.
