Construction site accident remains under investigation

People who work in construction in Pennsylvania and across the country are likely aware that they face a variety of different hazards. Unfortunately, even knowledge of and training regarding these hazards is not enough to completely prevent a construction site accident. In fact, a construction worker in another state recently lost his life in a work-related incident.

The accident happened one morning on a day in late November. According to reports, the man was part of a construction crew working  on a home that was being built. Unfortunately, the 47-year-old victim reportedly fell, resulting in the loss of his life.

The man was attempting to frame a house by building a wall, and the fall was from the second floor into the basement. Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fall and are looking at factors such as a medical incident, malfunctioning equipment or a misstep. While local officials are looking into the accident, fatal workplace accidents are also typically investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Investigations can be a lengthy process and take up to six months to complete.

Few families in Pennsylvania are prepared from the unexpected death of a loved one. Because of the possibility of being involved in a construction site accident -- or work-related accidents in general -- employers are required to provide workers' compensation insurance benefits that can help families cope with the financial consequences of their loss. An attorney with experience with such cases can help surviving family members understand their rights regarding the pursuit of all available insurance benefits.
