Workplace accidents: 1 killed, 1 injured while loading salt

During the winter, many people in Pennsylvania often grumble about bad weather conditions. However, most may be unaware that workers often put in a great deal of time and energy into ensuring that the roads are safe during a winter emergency, potentially placing themselves at risk of being involved in workplace accidents. Unfortunately, a worker in another state has recently lost his life as part of the preparations that go into planning for a snow or ice emergency.

The incident that led to the man's death happened one morning on a day in late December. According to reports, workers were at a facility used by the roads operation division of the Metro Public Works. Many of the details regarding the accident are unclear, but officials have said that "something went wrong" while workers were loading salt into the facility.

The deceased 52-year-old man died at the scene. Another worker also suffered injuries but is expected to recover. The incident remains under investigation by several organizations, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration which has six months to finish.

Workplace accidents such as this often leave families in Pennsylvania and across the country facing both psychological and financial difficulties. In addition to grief over their loss, many families often wonder how they will be able to pay their bills while coping with funeral costs and lost wages. To help, employers are required to provide workers' compensation insurance benefits. Even with this coverage, the compensation process can be confusing for those who are grieving and have specific deadlines that must be met, often prompting injured workers or surviving family members in the case of a fatality to seek guidance from an experienced professional.
