Man killed in construction accident involving a 2-ton pipe

Most people in Pennsylvania and in other areas of the country are aware that almost all workplaces hold some degree of risk, even if those risks may not be obvious. However, many people do not fully realize the potential harm that construction workers face due to the heavy equipment with which they work, among other dangerous elements. In fact, a worker in another state recently passed away as a result of a construction accident.

The incident happened on a day in March. Reports indicate that a 46-year-old man was a contractor for Black Rock Development. At the time of the accident, he was working in a trench at a construction site.

Unfortunately, a cement pipe weighing 4,000 pounds reportedly rolled into the trench onto the man. Bystanders were able to extricate the man and administer CPR. Unfortunately, he ultimately passed away due to injuries suffered in the accident.

Fatal accidents typically trigger an investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. While an investigation could help prevent similar accidents in the future, it will not help the family of the man killed in the construction accident cope with their unexpected loss. Often, families are left struggling financially as well as emotionally because of funeral expenses and lost wages. Pennsylvania requires that employers provide workers' compensation insurance benefits in the event of an accident such as this; these benefits often extend to certain family members. An attorney with experience with such accidents can help the man's family seek the compensation to which they are entitled.
