Employee injured during fight with attempted robber

An employee at a Pennsylvania gas station was able to get a would-be robber to flee empty-handed. Although the attempted robber did not get away with any cash, the clerk was injured on the job during the incident. Part of the fight between the two was captured on a store surveillance camera.

The attempted robbery took place at a BP gas station in South Strabane Township at approximately 9:21 p.m. While working in the back of the store, the clerk witnessed a man run through the parking lot. The man then came into the store and demanded cash while threatening the employee with a knife. When the suspect grabbed him, the clerk fought back and managed to get the suspect to leave the store.

Outside in the parking lot, the fight continued before the suspect finally fled on foot. After defending the store, the clerk was left with a knife injury on one of his hands. According to police reports, the suspect was described as a white man who stood approximately six feet tall. At the time of the incident, he had been dressed in a green hooded jacket and red gloves. He had also colored his face red in an apparent attempt to disguise himself.

A convenience store clerk has one of the most dangerous jobs. In fact, these workers suffer from one of the highest rates of workplace homicide, second only to taxi drivers. After sustaining injuries during the attempted robbery, the victim in this case may wish to file a workers' compensation claim, with which he could receive sufficient medical treatment.
